Fried Fish Preparation
In Cuban cuisine, fried fish is considered one of the simplest recipes to prepare and one of the most delicious. There are numerous ways to cook fish, such as fillet, grilled, steamed, or even baked. All these cooking methods will bring forth different flavors and tastes.
In this article, however, we will focus specifically on a homemade recipe for whole fried fish. When you select the perfect whole fish, you will have to base your decision on the size of your pan. The fish will have to fit perfectly in your pan, so choose a small or medium-sized fish based on that.
You can choose a frozen fish, but for the sake of this article, we will assume that you are making use of fresh fish. Another thing that will significantly increase the flavor of your fried fish is the use of canola oil. The oil has a mild taste and is heat resistant, making it an excellent option for this recipe.
An Easy-To-Prepare Whole Fried Fish Recipe
You will need the following ingredients:
- 1 Whole Fish
- Juice from Two Lemons
- 3 Garlic Cloves – crushed
- Half a teaspoon of Salt
- A pinch of ground White Pepper
- Vegetable Oil for frying
Start by preparing and seasoning your fish. You can do this by making three to four diagonal cuts on both sides of your fish. Then you add the lemon juice, crushed garlic cloves, salt, and pepper. The fish should now rest for 10-20 minutes to help enhance the flavor.
While the fish rest, you can heat your stove with a pan and enough oil in the pan to cover the fish. When the oil is hot, you can place the fish in the oil and fry it until both sides are brown. If both sides of the fish are brown, take it out of the pan and place it on a plate. You can drain any excess grease from the fish with the use of paper towels.
When you present the fish on the plate, you can add ingredients such as thyme, bay leaf, or ground oregano. Serve your fish with a side salad or a side of chips.
